Do NOT get a Leporinus unless you have a 5 foot or longer tank for it. Trust me, I have one.

I keep my dwarf puffer with 9 neon tetras, 5 zebra danios, a mini-pleco, two in-IDd catfish, two cories, and a kuhli loach. That's all in a 10 Gallon tank.

My main tank is 6 ft long:)

I'm not a sw or bw puffer expert. I only know about fw fish. And puffers are not for everybody. It's a very hard little pet to keep care of, and you can not just throw them in any old tank. Good job for doing research.

Yeah Im going all out, the tank they would go in is a 20g tall hexagon, hooking up an eheim cannister filter to it, overkill maybe but I like having lots of filteration!

if you see a puffer at petsmart just buy it. dont go to the other side of town just to not give support to petsmart.
if you dont buy that fish someone else will. plus youre just saving that fish's life before it ends up dying in petsmarts tank. you wont believe how many dead fish i saw there. there were not only dead fish but dead tanks. crazy.

Yeah I agree with this statement. Petsmart's not that bad anyway, both of the petsmarts by my house are brand new so they are both top notch, really nice. Now wallmart on the other hand. Geeze Ive never seen tanks in such bad condition:nilly:

If you're a Dwarf Puffer fan, GO FOR IT. They're amazing creatures. Very intelligent, inquisitive, and brave little guys.

I have four. I originally bought 3 from a LFS, and 2 from Petsmart. The coloration on the LFS is nicer, more distinctive markings. Sometime recently, I lost one of the Petsmart puffers, but his disappearance is a total mystery.

My guys have lived happily in a 55 with several polypterus, rosie barbs, african butterflyfish, a sun catfish, and an african knifefish, for about 3 months. The puffers don't bother anyone, and no one seems to have any interest in them.

They like frozen bloodworms okay, and LOVE live blackworms, but seem to ignore most other foods.

I tried them first in my 10 gallon, with all my favorite small fish (skunk cories, dario dario, african pipefish, guppies), but they were devilish fin nippers and had to be removed.

Give 'em a try, and good luck!

Im kinda leaning that way, not sure I want to mess with salt.

you should look into avocodo puffers

I have 4 dwarf puffers from petsmart. They live in a 55 gallon brackish tank with dragon gobies, eel gobies, leaf fish, rainbow gouramis, mollies. In fact all of the fish in that tank are from petsmart. I bought them all at once when I set up the tank 3 years ago.

If you haven't, check out pufferpunk's site http://www.**************.com/forum/
Warning ! She is strictly a Fish First person, so ask questions accordingly. She has a pretty good handle on puffers.

Good Luck, and remember to quarantine!:nilly:
