my new platinum channel eats the algea growing on the sides of the pond. i can stuff it with shrimp, worms, pellets, and other food but soon after it will go and rip off a few clumps of algea from the sides. is this normal, im guessing its a natural forage food, but ive never thought of using algea for bait..lol.
does the algea help with digestion? or does it give the catfish other nutrients it knows it needs?

It's a catfish's salad. :D

Some people take blue/green algae as a suppliment, you could be setting on a gold mine!

And you can't use algae for bait... Won't stay on a hook!

Next...Your complaining because you found something that eats algae? :screwy: J/K

Yes, it's normal. Some just have more of an affinity to it than others. Lots of nutrients & trace elements too.

Why do you have that much algae anyway? (busted)

I used to have a neighbor I called catfish, he never understood it... 'catfish' all mouth and NO brains.

where ever the liner is exposed (like the sides and part of the slope) the algea grows, its that lond stuff, like 5" long. but the lil bluegills like it and it doesnt hut my filtration, but when it floats up i net it out.
i was just worried i wasnt giving him enough food thats all. or maybe it was sick and knew what to do on it own....idk...lol.

We usually just don't see them do it.

I had one that learned to eat floating food by swimming upside down! First time I saw it I thought it was dying.
