I have an 403 that I got of CL thats been working for me for 2 years or so now, who knows how long the guy had it. I replaced the plastic cap that held the impeller in, however I ran it for a year with it broke, I only ordered because I needed to order one more item to get free shipping.

So I always thought they were good and was going to get a new one for my planted tank but now I am not sure after all you're complaints.

Don't get me wrong. The 405 is pretty much top notch. My only complaint is the goofy impeller shaft.

BTW - the new impeller arrived today. I didn't break it putting it all back together. Maybe they get weak with age?? Mine was close to two years old. My brothers 304 was much older than that.

One interesting note....the BSN plecos in the 120 must be breeding. I found a dead little tiny pleco in very bottom of the canister. The surprising part is that I cleaned it over the weekend while it was out of commission. I must have missed it??
