not sure where to ask about info on these guys, ie. sexing, diet, i got 3 from the local guy here and they are gorgeous fish, should max out about 10" but i would of course like to be able to sex them and different diets, they accept flakes right now, the small guppy, anyone heard of them eating heart?
anyways any info would help, thanks all
Jim

There are no confirmed accounts of them breeding in tanks though they have bred in ponds, the only info on this that I found was that they scattered eggs among the plants and that you need a bunch of them to breed them. they tend to be aggresive towards their own kind if there is only a pair and they are always active, that is from my own experience, mine hung out with the balas. Mine ate tiny crickets, brine shrimp, fairy shrimp, tubifex and small earthworms, the occasional small fish, fine granulated food and tetra flakes.

They might be ok together when young but they tend to become more solitary and aggressive towards one another as they get older so keep a close eye on them  Any pics to show us?

I had bought one of these guys for five bucks about four months ago...I heard they grow to 16 inchs....Also they are very skiddish, well the one i had was anyways...They are nice fish beautiful colours...However, i have given mine to my friend ...

any pic? :D

i like those things. judging from appearance, they seem like they like to jump right out of the water. it's good to get a nice active fish like that, especially when you have juvie dats like me that hide all day.

It is recommended that you keep only one or at least 6, Here is a picture by C. Landines. this species maxes out around 10"s long.
