Swallowed, that ones Very nice, i've been debating adding pulcra to my collection, do you have just the one ? how big is he/she?, i know a guy who has some breeding and they are BIG much bigger then i thought pulcra get...

I have to ask, why do you push Kettapang leaves in every post ?do you sell them ? I see lots of your pic's and clearly you have some great lightig and a nice camera, but Kettapang leaves although they cant hurt, they dont make THAT big of a diffence... what kind of camera do you use for your snakehead photos ? ....

Thanx DC :headbang2. I only have the one im not interested in breeding them i just wanted to own a smaller channa species. He/She is 6-7 inches long and i cant see him getting to much bigger, but he might. The only problem is its subtropical so you almost have to have a species tank for him. Really nice fish to own though, friendly, good looking and not half as aggresive as my micropeltes:D

ya i only keep sub tropical channa (easy here no heaters) I have see them kept with everything though, they are tough, if your not breeding they can take higher temps, i have seen them with a pile of fish, as long as they dont fit in ther emouth should be ok... so far as i know the lower temps are good when you want to breed them other wise you can up the temps and keep some larger species with them with caution

Hi DC.
I don't sell Kettapang leaves, but I get supplied by a family friend who has a fish farm in Thailand. (There are plenty of sellers on EBAY)

The leaves really do make a huge difference in my personal opinion. I keep (and have kept) many many snakeheads and all but the African Parachanna appeared to love the leaves being in the tank/pond.

In tanks, I use them rolled into tubes. Many of my SH (especially my Bleheri) love to lay in these tubes like a sleeping bag!

The Almond tree and it's family are very commonly found at the banks of lakes, streams and rivers (even swamps!) where most Snakeheads are found. The leaves fall and often line the botom of the riverbeds almost like a substrate. They leak VERY benifitial tannings and other agents into the water. Most fish seem to thrive in these conditions.

This also lowers the ph significantly at which point MOST snakeheads will produce a stronger color.

I reccomend you try using them for a few months and you will get great results.
2-3 leaves per 60l of water. Change every few weeks before the leaves rot.

As for lighting, I use just standard twin striplights in all my tanks. Bulbs are Kotobuki "clear white".

Cameras I use are Canon 500D and Sony Alpha a200.

*edit* Before buying any leaves from anyone, make sure they are SUN dried and grade-A (b&c are useless) and remove any carbon from filters.
DC, if you are interested in trying these out, i can ship you a couple of months worth out to you. (as long as you pay postage)

I wouldnt mind trying the,m, I've thought about it in the past but never bothered because the cost here isnt worth it, for the sized tanks i keep i would go through way to many of them , and they arnt cheap here in canada,

as for PH that does seem to help the color, my takns have alot of drftwood, and my tap comes out at 6.5, so low ph isnt hard lol

wow tokyogasmask, your Channa pulchra is so beautiful. I've never seen a pulchra with such deep blue color as yours. where did you get it from?

could you post more pics of your fish and tank perhaps? :D even better, a video !!!
