tscharf;3123208; said:they would be ok in a 240 for a good amount of time, mines fine in a 55 and ive had him for a year and a hald. theyd last a while in there and then afterwards u culd put them in the pond as recommended or release them back into the resevoir you got him from. just watch what u put in there with him, mine gets territorial in the spring during the spawn.
Any idea what species mine from 10 years ago was? They grow huge, very quickly. (I've found that they grow slower from 1" to ~4or5" then grow incredibly fast up to 15-20", and usually slow down around there, however these cats get as large in aquaria as you see fishermen catch out of the reservoir. If you start with a 3" channel from a petshop you'll need a pond in probably a years time, if you take it out of the reservoir, you'll probably need a pond in a few months.
They are great fish though, I have three (a 3.5" a 6" and a 12" - two albinos and a blue) so if you are willing to get a very large tank or build them a pond I would say it's worth it. If you're not, then Id say leave the fish in the reservoir.
Here's some pics of mine

No kidding, channels get huge, most I used to raise got from 12 to 20 pounds by their second summerBullheads are cool, had a few growing up as a kid. I have a speckled bullhead now almost a foot long in a 75, he's getting an upgrade to a 150, and my daughter caught some baby's in the river last year, they are about 3" long now, they going to take over the 75. Our LFS sells channel cats and they call a large one 12", I'm like they get huge SMH. Caught this one last summer

Big cats love head rubs, lol they wiggle to get it, so cute.Wow, lol I had one years ago was about 2inches when I got it, then it commited suicide by jumping out of tank a few months later . I do like bullheads though, they are extremely sociable fish. My folks had a tsn when I was a kid that liked to have his head rubbed lol
That is a channel cat
Not too friendly of an exact ID photo but I agree, it looks like a channel catfish.
