Easiest way to keep the water quality up is with a baster. Just suck up feeding debris 2-3 times a day and it’ll never rot in there. Cloudy water is a shortcut to losing another batch of fry. Fry can be sensitive to big water changes too. Especially when they come with a dramatic chemistry or temperature change- which you’re going to have a big chemistry change going from cloudy to tap water (mostly it’ll just be going from toxic water to healthy water so do it)
More frequent water changes are going to be your friend. In 2 weeks the fry will have more than doubled the bio load- so your already behind the 8 ball

Thanks for your input dude. Started with a baster this am. My fry are use to big water changes. i do a slow fill matching tank temp. with this batch we haven't lost 1 fry yet so in a way i must be doing something right.

Tth is lonely fry will be 3 weeks old this sunday. Then i have about 7 that somehow survived from the most recent spawn. What i meant by that was eggs weren't fertilized and days later i found fry swimming with my male and i took em out lol.

Check out where my pair of pikes are… this pair spawned the day or 2 days before I left for a month and a half. My wife and son threw some pellets at the parents and a little bit of decpsulated brine shrimp eggs or golden pearls to the fry but neither one of them is a fish keeper at all- and neither one knew what was enough or too much as far as food goes. Algae on every surface andntheees hornwort and Anacharis floating that the fry go up and feed in also. All the fry from my pairs/ breeding groups outside in vats- I don’t even feed until they are almost an inch long- threes just so much natural food for them in the vats in the form of algae and plankton- plus there parents slime coats etc. I don’t want to photo bomb your thread but Im throwing in a couple pictures of some other fry and breeding tanks. There are a handful of guys on this board and others who have fish from me- either directly or through one of the mail order retailers I deal with regularly. If you establish a more complete system which basically means lots of fry food naturally present- you’ll see increased success and have more resilient fry tanks that can take more feeding of outside foods without fouling etc. good luck my man- I can’t wait to see some of your own grow outs! If you include substrate in your breeding tank the parents will dig a pit and the eggs won’t blow all over nearly as bad- and you can give the parents a crack at raising them. Cichlids babies basically ALL feed off the parents slime coat- and the crumbs of there parents meals. Just some thoughts my man- stay with it.
