Baldtaxguy - those are definitely acaras (Cichlasoma) but I don't think C. dimerus.

Did you get them from Jeff Michel?

Matt
My apologies...I mixed up some pics and deleted my dimerus in error. I meant to delete my Aequidens tetramerus which is what I posted in error. Sorry for confusion....

Yea the look wicked, but good things come in small packages! They seem to be fairly like broad and tall for there size, look like tough fish! Also, how the hell do people take such good pictures of fish in their tanks LOL, i always have trouble!!

Ok, I know this is an old thread and maybe I shouldn't dig it up, but when googling for C. dimerus it seems there is not that much photos/videos around. I've posted some photos and videos on aquariacentral.com already, but why not do it here also. I guess the user base is somewhat different compared to AC...

anyway, I've had 5 of these fish for about 2 years now. After a year they started to show some interest in spawning and a dominant pair was formed. They did few spawns in my 450l south american cichlid tank, but were unable to defend the fry from other fish. Few months back I bought a 200l tank for the breeding pair and after few weeks they did their first spawn. First try in their dedicated tank was a failure for some reason and the eggs disappeared. Second spawn was a success and now after 2,5 months we've got some ~200 growouts crowding the tank. Parents has been moved back to SA cichlid tank, because after a month or so they lost interest guarding the spawn and the male began to chase and beat up the female (as it did before just before a new spawn). Breeding pair continue to spawn in the bigger tank, but the fry/eggs have not survived for to long. Previous fry is doing good and feeding with NLS small fish formula now. Some of the fry is ~2cm long and the smallest are about 1cm.

Ok, now on to the videos. First one shows the breeding pair and few days old free swimming fry.

Second one is few weeks later. Fry has doubled their size and this is when I had to move the parents away too.

and lastly a video of the breeding pair in SA cichlid tank and their new fry I caught hatching yesterday & also the 2,5 months old fry in the smaller tank. Quite a growth compared to the newborn :)
