anyone kept cichlids with rbp's?

what type of cichlid and what were your experiences?

what size were the fish?

i haven't personally done this but from what iv read of other people doing this im pretty sure it is mostly frowned upon. you could probably search threads on here and see but it can end very badly for the cichlids. since the way cichlids fight is by lip-locking they can very easily get their mouths torn off by a piranha when trying to fight with them. from what iv researched it is usually recommended for piranhas to be kept in a species specific tank

Kept three 6-7" RBPs with a pair of 2-3"convict cichlids. Had to move the convicts as they were stressing out the RBPs

I have seen single rpb kept with some Sa cichlids but generally cichlids are too agressive.

Not adviseable. Chiclids will be too much for them.

Hi,

Had to temporarily house a Cobalt Blue Zebra Cichlid with a solo RBP. The Blue was aggressive from the beginning and was dominant. The blue was about 2 1/2" and P was 4". The P would eventually got him in the end i think. Once in a while the P would fight back and scatter the blue. Either way, they we together a short time....

you probably could keep one or two rbp with semi aggressive cichlids. that is if you want nipped fins that make your fish look ugly. real aggressive cichlids would harass them to death as mentioned. but theres always that perfect combo that will allow it if your want to go through the hassle.

The only thing I ever kept with my Red Belly Piranha were Plecos. Had two in a 55 with four nice sizr Rbps. They grew up with one another. One day when I was near the tank, one of the rbps decide to take a bite out of one of the plecos. Before I could do anything, the Rbp bit off half of the plecos head. I reached my hand into the tank, but it was too late. Damn shame, because they coexisted for so long. Never had that problem with my other pleco.

I've seen a mating pair of convicts kick the sh#t out of a bigger RBP, so I would keep them alone.
