How safe are clay pots and trays for aquariums? Does clay disintegrate over time? Any chemicals. I have no clue so help me out.

I dont know the material or anything about it. Just that I got it from a gardening place and it was made in Italy. I assumed it was safe because so many people have clay pots in their aquariums for fish to hide and lay eggs in.

I will probably have this clay tray in my aquarium for as long as it lives. I have a bunch of Java moss tied to it to form a carpet.

Its been in there for weeks and my Cherry shrimp seem to be doing fine. Im just afraid that some day it will start to disintegrate and screw up my tank.

Its just 10 gallon tank. The clay tray runs the entire length of the tank.

I've been putting clay pots in my aquariums for over 10 years and have never had a problem.

Did you have them in there for a long time or just when you needed them in there? Because Im really planning on keeping this in there for as long as the tank lives. Its going to be the base of my aquascape.

I've had clay pots in my tanks for quite a while. They are fine. Its just good old fashioned terra cotta.

Love the clay pots! I put plants inside them for my goldfish tanks!
