What type is she? I’m not very knowledgeable about lower jaws so I’m not sure.

I agree with beau. For some reason polys are just ignored. Only fish i ever had that had issues with polys that i can remember were vieja argentea, but he also hated everything.

Do you think it would be better to just drop a poly in his tank? . . . or I could put them in tanks side-by-side for a while so they could watch each other.

I've done this with other fish and had some success.

A tank divider is always an option. Perhaps a horizontal tank divider made from egg crate. Oscar gets the top space and the bichir gets the bottom space. Since it’s egg crate there won’t be any dead zones. Just make sure that if you go with this method the bichir you get can’t squeeze through the eggcrate.

Make sure it's a decent sized poly and you should be fine

I've done this with other fish and had some success.

Lie beau said just make sure its a good sized poly. What else is in the tank ? The only problem i see is feedings. Cichlids can easily out compete polys for food.

You could also grow one out in another tank
