When young 27's don't have the black white banding on their tails
Like this borrowed from evolutions on arofanatics
View attachment 902585

Price as mentioned but some vendors or LFS charge a lot for 190's ,191's and 330's

Teeth pattern, body colour, pattern/stripes, body shape

It's best to post an ID thread if you're not sure. Sucks to pay more a fish than you should

i got give credit to Jackson for pointing that out about the banding on the tail fin.

Heres my contribution. I was cleaning the tank and had the oppty to take pics of the two xingu that i have.
I got both around the same time. So far they are about the same size, growth.

ah ha! after seeing DavidR and lmt6600s pictures, I finally understand the difference between the teeth! narrower ^ for the L190 vs the Widder/Fatter ^ for the xingu! Altho I've have a much better understanding thanks to all the experienced fellas' words, I also agree with everyone that it's best to post a picture to be sure. nothing to feel unmanly or embarrassed about. money is money, and it really sucks to pay too much than one should for a fish. Altho sometimes that's the only way to learn ... paying tuition!!! ha!

This pleco thing... I can totally see that this pleco fever is more addicting and dangerous than asian arowanas. I say dangerous because even they cost less per piece... it's exactly why you end up buying so many more.... sheez!

Read page 4 of the first link I posted few post above this, read matts explanation and he thinks its araguaia
