Hi all! So I plan to have a 40 gallon breeder open soon and am looking for something truly unique. Not angelfish or glass cats or cichlids, something really unique like South American puffers, or leopard bush fish. Something that will be really cool. I am completely willing to do any extra care needed for these fish. I have kept a lot of fish in the time I’ve been in the hobby and am looking for something new to try. The only requirement is that it has to be freshwater, and can’t be over 100 dollars

Any of the freshwater pipefish:
Enneacampus ansorgii
Doryichthys martensii
Microphis deocata

I agree with Fishnerd360 Fishnerd360 , if you haven’t tried Zig Zag Yellow Tail Spiny Eels, THATS something you could try. Maybe Celebes Halfbeaks. Badis. That’s all I got. Have fun!

My hairy puffer is a very out going wet pet. A bit on the expensive side but worth every bit. Mine has a 65B to itself and is every bit as interactive with me as my cichlids. It is lazy otherwise so it is not a sit and watch for hours kind of fish but will beg for food and watch what I do and follow me around.

A piece of driftwood in the tank that it treats as its perch and watches what is going on.

There is just that cuteness factor when she swims around

She also regularly “inflates” for me
