Corydoras for an unheated tank

What do you think about sterbai and julii ?

I think that if the tank doesn't get any colder than 68F, especially if 68F is just the bare minimum, you can keep almost any cory you want. My sterbai bred in a tank kept at 71-73. They laid eggs on my floating plants, lol. The only corys I've seen laying eggs in such places :)When I kept corys alone in a tank, I always kept the temperatures cooler. I have a group of corys that spent 4 years in a cooler tank and the last two years in my clown loach tank. Its more of a concern if the temperature is too high.

Sterbai corys:

The type specimen was collected from the Rio Guaporé. It can be difficult to get hold of wild specimens these days, though. Virtually all of the fish entering the trade are produced commercially on farms.

Another search reveals the following:

Apr 26, 2016 - The data helps to explain the surprisingly low water temperature of the Rio Guapore of 20 °C recorded in August

Sure, sterbai corys are known to tolerate way higher temps than majority of other corys...Point is, most corys don't like it that warm at all....

On a side note, if the kids are into it, you can also add some neocaridina shrimp like cherry shrimp or red rili shrimp, or both. They also do very well, if not way better, in cool water and will survive in temps as low as 53F without a problem. Mine are kept in cold water tanks currently and breed like rabbits.

Corys and shrimp do very well together as shrimp are detritus eaters and will keep the bottom healthy for the corys. The corys don't tend to eat shrimp at all so the shrimp population is very active and will explode(you may get free food for your other tanks ;)) If it's not a planted tank, leaf litter such as dry oak leaves, etc..would be very much appreciated if you've got easy access to it. And of course, floating plants is a very good option. I am only throwing ideas...:) Good luck whatever you decide and keep us informed on the progress.

Are you looking for a smaller species of cory or a larger species?

It might look good having both a school of a larger species and a smaller species.

Sorry for not replying. All the ideas are much appreciated and yes I was thinking of shrimps I agree the kids would like that.

So the to is currently sitting at 63. Do you think that the corys we mentioned early would still thrive in these temps ?

Maybe weather loaches would do better.

Throw all the ideas at me you can lol

Really just looking to keep corys that I can get locally which unfortunately is a PetSmart. I listed what they had a few posts back. I'd rather avoid shipping or paying allot for them. I do like barbatus but at 30$ each plus shipping I'll pass

I’ve been looking at corys from Argentina for the same reason. Fishbase has a bunch listed like carlae (sp). I’ve never kept any corys before, but thought they’d be useful in my ranchu tank.

I was hoping to avoid shipping and get some common corys ssld locally. I guess I can just try it and see how it goes
