I have a bunch of deer roasts that i dont eat and was wondering if i could cut very small pieces out of it at a time and feed them to my fish? How about chicken liver? I know people feed there fish beef heart. The only meaty food i feed them now is worms and those are only for the big jack dempsey i have.

i feed my oscars steak and prime rib every once a year but i dont think it would be a good staple

It definitely wont be a staple just a way to bulk up my jack basically. also my convict needs to get a bit bigger. they gotta be getting tired of cichlid flakes all the time

Beef heart.

It's really cheap and beef's (no pun intended) up your fish quick. I used to give it to them raw, but lately I have been chopping it up and boiling it wich you dont really have to.....That's pretty much the only time I use the stove....for my fish.

They can't metabolize mammal meat properly. Beef heart is almost all muscle, which is why some feed it (I wouldn't).
Just because they 'fat up' on something because they can't digest it, doesn't mean it's good for them. It's not. Why not feed shrimp, krill or mussel instead?

i feed mine really lean stuff. if it's got lots of fat in it i don't think it's a good idea to feed on the regular.

what about chicken liver? i know that stuff is super cheap

Fish eat fish not chickens and cows. I don't beleive that their digestive systems can properly cope with that type of meat. Most fish anyway. It would also probably mess with your water quality. IMO.

Seriously, you're not supposed to feed meat like that to fish. Earthworms from the fishing dept at WalMart are cheap, crickets are cheap, mussel and shrimp from the grocery store would last a long long time, june bugs, that sort of stuff. I mean, you can do what you want, it's your fish. You'd be amazed at how fast they grow and how healthy they are if fed the stuff I mentioned. One of the biggest factors in how fast fish grow is how low their nitrates are. Why do you think breeders change the water 100% every day in their fry grow-out tanks? They feed a lot and change a lot of water to get those babies growing.
