Could My Oscar Be Pregnant???

Sounds to me like they're paired off, and sooner or later you'll see eggs.

Thanks...I'll keep my fingers crossed:) Oh...BTW I know I probably sound a little dumb for saying this, but would the Oscars eat their young??? I know some fish dont. But would they???

It's a crap shoot with new parents, they might eat the eggs or the fry, especially the first few spawns. Feed them really well with quality high protein foods to condition them for breeding.

Oscars as most cichlids exhibit spectacular parental care. The first spawn or two often fails from fungused eggs which the parents don't pick off. The fungus spreads, then they just eat it all. Most cichlids spawn every 3 weeks. Fry should be removed 1-2 weeks after entering the free swimming stage. The earlier you remove them, the more survivors you have...however they grow much faster when with the parents.

I personally think conditioning cichlids with special foods is nonsense. (not to say you shouldn't be feeding high quality pellets and worms or fillets as a supplement) If your fish eagerly eat and the water quality is good, they'll spawn. A temperature swing from the mid 70's to 82-86 is what makes a fish spawn, or at least in my experience.

Your oscars are too small to spawn, I had a pair that acted the same way, never got anything. I breed all different types of cichlids and fish, some spawn young, some not until much later. I've never seen or heard of an oscar spawning under 11". You might have a chance when they're both 12"+??, who knows, time will tell.

BTW, Welcome to MFK!!

agree fully with you mate

Thanks a lot you all have been very helpful with this and I appreciate it. Now, I got on this web page www.oscarfishlovers.com and they listed a few tank mates on there but Jack Dempseys werent on the list... are they safe to put together in a tank???

there as safe as any cichlid with oscars, people do keep oscars safely with jack dempseys but if these fish pair of then your going to need a large tank......
I personally kept oscars/jag/severum/jack dempsey/green terror together but now i only have the two oscars in one tank, severum and green terror were killed by aggro and jack dempsey got beat up so the jags in a tank alone and dempseys at my sisters as the main fish in her tank,, i figure cichlids should be kept alone unless they have a big tank,,,my tanks 5ft/2ft/2ft and it lasted about 6months before probs arose and 1.5years before all hell broke loose

Well I have a few pics of my tank and fish on my profile page. At first they had problems with only picking on my smaller JD. Now that I got a new set up in my tank they dont mess with each other at all. Well The Jack Dempseys chase one another off at times, but thats all.
