It might work, my concern would be the splendida eating the bichirs or pike or pike eating the bichirs. They've been known to eat almost 75% of their length. Just keep an eye out for aggression, ripped fins, tails, staying at a weird angle in the corner, etc. Flaring isn't a concern.

I was just thinking, would the shape of bichir be an issue? They aren’t very wide bodied fish, and are like giant noodles, would be pretty easy for the splendida to pick the bichir up, stress the hell out of them, and if he tries to eat them he may not be able to fully use his gills and suffocate. The stress from bichir being played with like chew toys could also kill them, but this is all based on the question of if their shape would be an issue.
