There are lots of male cichlids that will do well long term in a 55, a male Cuban is not one of them. If the idea is a wet pet, he won't shine in a 55. As already suggested you might as well start bigger from the get go.
I’ve come to the conclusion I’m gonna just re-set my big tank when the time is right. I won’t be happy if the fish isn’t happy in the tank, I’m just not that type of pet owner. Thank you guys for being candid, much appreciated.
