Next tank I get new will probably be from Midwest Customs. No way would I consider a glass tank over 200 gallons just because of the sheer weight of it empty and moving it. Glass does look beautiful though, and no worries from scratches. Once I refi with a 30 year mortgage maybe I will get it in glass. lol

I went back and forth with glass and acrylic. Never had an acrylic tank but since I ended up getting a 30x30 size I decided to give acrylic a try.

^ when I priced mine, I got quotes form everybody including glass cages with Starphire viewing panels, since I wanted the clarity of acrylic. The cost difference between my acrylic and the glass cages was only about 700-800 bucks and then when you consider the difference in weight for shipping it almost evened out.

They gave me the option to pick up on their delivery schedule, but that meant waiting an extra month and renting a truck. Plus 2 or 3 people could easily handle getting it on the the stand without any issues.

the difference in cost at the end of the day was almost nothing. Now if you don't mind he green tint of regular glass, you might save a bit more money, but I figured I was only going to build this tank once.........might as well do it exactly the way I wanted

Have you looked into Old Town Aquarium? They only do acrylic but they're local.

Just priced it out and I can get a 700 gallon starfire tank delivered locally for pickup for about 4,000 from glass cages. Acrylic for a 480 gallon would be around 5,000. Strangely the 7' size I want means I'm jumping to a 8' price range so there is no way this isn't going to be big bucks. I definitely have to wait a bit on this. I need a display tank and have discerned I'll get a 210 as a hold over and then buy a 10'x3'x3' to go along my one wall I'll bump my south americans into that when I swap out the 210 for a 450 gallon plywood I'm gonna build. the plywood will be an African display tank at that point. I have this huge fish room but no proper display tanks to show off fish I'm breeding/selling so its a worthwhile investment for my business and my recreational itch. I know that acrylic fluctuates in price as its an oil product so I'll get more quotes in 6 months on the tank I want. I expect a 10' acrylic tank to be 10,000 though and that is a load of money for sure. I'm gonna start another thread poking around to see what the largest running glass tanks on this website are before I venture forth.

Yeah the size you want definitely plays a roll. At first I was looking at a 300 tall 96x24x30tall...but my stand I had built has a extra lip on the back so I started to look at doing 26.5 front to back to fill the stand. Well that extra 2.5" pushed the price of the tank to the exact same as if it was 30"....so I decided to have my stand and canopy adjust to fit the 30x30 since its the same price....and I really wanted the extra room.

I had a glasscages 240...not to bad...not to great...silicon wasnt all that but it held water. I was going to get a 300 tall to replace it (same thing but 30" tall) and they were going to use the same 1/2" glass. I was kinda leary with that...and with the good and bad I have read about them I couldnt help think...what if its my turn for issues. 300gal of water on the floor is no joke. So I started to look at acrylic...the price from glass cages for 3/4" glass was pricy...and acrylic wasnt much more...and my tank grew to 96x30x30 so I went acrylic. It will be easier to move and acrylic is supposed to have stronger seams and over all stronger...just scratching is the key issue. I will give it a try...and went with titan...they were the best to talk to when I started my looking...not saying the others arnt...just felt good with Titan. They are also all the good ones from tenacor so the quality is there even tho the rep might not be yet since they are kinda new. I plan to post a build thread....

How thick is your Acrylic?
