Could be tricky, there is still a 5' tank where the couch is going to be so its hard to get it on the right angle. Will have a play around with that and the lighting to see what I can do.

HA!!This will be the last new tank for some time. Our long-term plan is to move from here in a couple of years (depending on how much we save and can pay off the mortgage, and how house prices go) into somewhere more settled where we will stay for a long time and then build something even bigger into the house.

This build/tank has made me realise a couple of things;

1. I like big tanks. Bigger is better and I would rather have one enormous tank than several smaller ones, even though it will restrict what I am able to keep. Already it doesn't look that big to me and I am wanting to go bigger...

2. I don't like keeping overstocked tanks. I have no ethical or moral objection to it so long as the fish are healthy, but for me seeing a group of fish with enough space to behave naturally is far more interesting than cramming as many big fish into my tank as possible. If our long-term plan comes to fruition and I get to build this monster tank (thinking 4-5' wide, 10-12' long and 30-34" high, but who knows, depends on the space and $$) I'm still not going to keep anything that grows much over 12", with the exception of a black aro. I actually like the current look of the tank with just the 12 altifrons and the plecs, I think its going to look too busy with the uaru and arowana in there, will just have to keep thinking long-term and planning for the really big one...

And yes I know people want to see the full tank shots!! Its difficult at the moment for several reasons. The tank doesn't have enough light on it, so to get a decent FTS I'll need to take all the lights off my other tanks and set them up on the 1400L. Its still light outside at 9pm when the lights go off, so I need to take them off the timer and sit up until its dark outside. And there is still a 5' tank where the couch is supposed to be going so its hard to get far enough back from the tank to take it all in, I should be able to get a good shot on an angle though. Next week I've got three days of "normal" hours so I will be home in time to play with the lights and don't start at some crazy hour of the morning so can stay up late to take the shots when its dark.
Promise... :D

1. totally agree and know what you are saying. In your case, you're stocknig with a large quantity of smaller fish where I went with a small quantity of larger ones. In both situations you get the desired effect but as you fill the tank to your personal accepted level, it does end up looking small. What does help though, is a tall stand and/or small house! I don't think I could limit myself to a specific dimention though. As long as I can entertain in my living room, I'll try to go as big sas i can..!

2. Frankly, the 'JDM' look is grotesque and the number of kids who buy into it is obsurd. Sorry, let me rephrase; whilst it seems to be cultural in Asia, in the US it seems to be youngsters who have this inability to keep animals responsibily and rather than looking at it objectively, they simply palm it off as an emulation of the 'JDM' boys in Asia. The 'show us your overstocked tanks' thread in the photo lounge is case and point for me. Morally, it is questionable and whilst I'm not one of those tree hugging liberal morons, I hate to see (large) fish barely able to move.

Yeah there's a big difference between the "JDM look" (seems strange to be using that term on a fish forum instead of a car forum!) and a silver aro and 3 oscars in a 55g tank....

ps. what are the wheels on your car? Kinda look like regamasters?

Just went out there now to find a pair with about 100 fry guarding a spot down one end. The fry were probptly taken back into his (?) mouth though, so I'm not wuite sure how I'll get them out! (not that I've got anywhere to raise them at the moment anyway)
