I was a match 5 years ago & did the whole bone marrow transplant. Unfortunately, the results did not pan out like everyone hopes them to.
Just to reiterate the point, a good match is 3 out of 5 where most of the time it is through sibblings/family members. There have been some cases where parents would have another kid just to see if there could be a match.
I highly suggest everyone on the board to get on the Bone Marrow Registry www.marrow.org, all it involves is a swab on the inside of your mouth.
