It's a dressage saddle, and the reason that you couldn't tell is because it's weird It is flapless, and I prefer to use a pad that covers the panels only, to reduce the bulk under my leg. I have short legs for a tall person and taking away the flap and most of the pad makes it easier for me to reach where I need to. I resisted this type of saddle for a long time because it looks so odd, but after I rode in it, I found that it made such a difference for me that I no longer cared how it looks.for a pretty lousy rider that is some good posting posture right there. Is that a western saddle?
I have always said, "I can stay on a horse. It's not pretty, but it gets the job done." I had horse owner friends who were regulars at the gymkhana club who described my riding as sloppy and floppy. I answer that I learnt to ride as a kid alone on a farm watching cowboy movies.
I think everyone should experience the thrill of something so powerful beneath you yet obeys your commands with thin leather reins and foot placement.
Did a few outrides this summer.

That looks like a ton of fun; I haven't been on a real trail ride for a long time. I did put a Western saddle on my mare yesterday so I could pony a young gelding who is just getting back to work after being super sick.
