I read in Aqualog´s Polypterus book by Frank Schäfer about BB " It can usually be distinguished from P.Lapradei by the body markings above the anal fin: this part of the body is almost always unpatterned in P.Lapradei, while P.Bichir exhibits a pattern of light spots on dark background."

Can someone show me the visual between Lapradei and Bichir Bichir?

I suspect I have bought one :nilly:

Hi.
I have 3 P.BB (both variants) and would be able to tell you for sure if you post a picture.
Also, how many finlets does it have?

FYI, all the pics of the live specimens in the book labeled bichir bichir are in fact Guinea lapradei, so some of the description may not be accurate if it's based on those specimens.

Another thing to think about is certificates.

All 3 of my P.B.B have Cites(?) certificates for them.
If you haven't paid for them yet, I wouldn't without a certificate (unless you are 100% sure)

At the end of the day if you paid Lapradei price for them, they probably are Lapradei.

Hope you can post a picture, I can help you I.D them.

I can try to take a pic on him, not easy with all the plants and roots. I bought 7 wc lapradei from a guy that imports fishes, not a petshop. Have no certificates. It is probably a lap, but i reacted when i saw the marking about its anal fin, because i hade just read in the book about BB...

no they're not CITES certificates, nor is one required for this fish. The certificates you have are just 'proof of authenticity' that the japanese breeders/suppliers choose to provide with their fish.

like i said, there is no certificate, unless you're getting them from japanese breeders. Anyway, like you said, i bet it's a lapradei. From what i've seen, the thing about the markings above the anal fin isn't really a distinguishing feature.

Post pics and we can tell if it's a lap or pbb.

As Infblue already posted, all PBB, doesn't matter which regional variant are not CITES protected. As far as I know, Kahimata, Polymaterial, GEF and there is another which I forgot the name have cert for their captive breed bichirs. But they are just proof of authenticity. My two bichirs from GEF came with cert too.
