how do you differentiate between the different types of arowana, those are-
1 asian arowana
2 silver arowana
3 jardini arowana
4 black arowana
because when going to the pet store you do not know whether the guy their will give you the arowana that you want.

go to Google and click Images and type in the different kinds of arowana and look at the pictures. asians and jardinis look allot different than silvers and blacks. black arowana are much more expensive than silver arowana. silver arowana is the most common to find in a LFS. sometimes they try to sell silvers as black arowana to make more money so if you are buying a black arowana then make sure it is a black arowana
hope this helps!

Asian/Jardini arowana have a more pronounced tail fin structure, and hail from the coasts of china/asia. Where as the black and silver are from a different geography (amazon/SA) and feature a "pointed" tail fin structure. The Jardini is considered more agressive than the black/silver aro's. Asian and Jardini are the same fish, silver and black are color morphs of the same fish.

to be honest, google images will be the best bet OR take apic, post it on and we will ID it

but its easly.
south american (silver and black) is distinctly different to the formosus varierty.
the australians (jar and lei) are also very different to asian aros.

asian aros have lots of variety, those are best id'd but in saying that.
they come with certificates, and those are very accurate.

Research, plain and simple research.

The only arowanas that are hard to tell apart IMO are jar/lei when small, and some of the different colour varieties of the asian aros.

Google is your friend, or even the Arowana Media Lounge here, plenty of pics of all the different species in there.

how do you spot differences between an adult silver arowana and an adult black arowana?
because they almost look the same and both grow out to be silver.

Jardini and Asian arowana are separate species as are silver and black aros. They are not color morphs of the same species.

:duh:

Good example of why research is needed, so much false information in forums
