You want to keep the return plumbing a minimum of 1/2". It is ok to go larger but you won't see an improvement in performance (because aquarium systems are so small). It is way too late in the day for me to track down a pump curve for that pump, but look at the sticky thread in the "setup" section about sizing pumps on how to do the math. I think that one will be fine (I am only going off of its size in the picture).
