imagine what my nitrate levels must be at the end of the week :eek:

you could possibly run that chloramine filter mopar suggested inline on a water line from the city and pop a valve on the end of that and stick it right over the tank to trickle in. no need for another pump or ugly trash can.

^ yeah my reason for having a seperate chamber is that if the power goes out, this will continue to pump cold water into the tank. with no heaters at all, and cold water constantly going, it could cause problems if this happens while im gone for the weekend. with a seperate chamber, if the power goes out, so does the new water supply

is there a way you could pop a level sensor on the tank to turn off the supply from the water line?

Check into the prices on a electric shut off valve.

We used them at my last work to do the same thing in our machines. They had a constant flow of water going to the tub in the wash center. And it would cycle the tank and drain the tub every few minutes. And they learned the hard way what happens if some one forgets to shut the machine down. And the power goes out (giant flood).

If you find a affordable shut off valve. You could run a line from your houses water supply to right above the tank. And then install the valve and a drip emitter made for hydroponics. You can by the drip emitters in just about and Gallon Per Day size you want for pretty cheap.

This way you could solve alot of issue's with one part. And be sure of what you are actually changing.

But as good as that sounds then you would have to figure out a way to add a few drops of some prime every hour or so.

Good luck

Here is a link to my WC setup. If you don't want to rely on power to operate your system, then you can just break it down to the basics.

Water Line-->Pressure regulator ($8)-->Water Filter ($20-$70)-->> Drip Emitter ($5)-->Tank

I would look at just filtering the water with the same as what I used and Dmopar suggested. This takes all the worry out of dosing your system. This stuff is cheap to run and operate, plain and simple. As far as the filter price, ti depends on what you need to filter, just chlorine or chlorine and chloramines.

Simple is usually better! (I tend to find the most complicated way to do something - it's a gift, I know) :D

Your system sounds great; what was the url?

ok i like the basic concept that pharaoh posted, using a pressure regulator and drip emitter. so now i have a few more questions :nilly:

- where can i find the pressure regulator i need to use on a small water line? can i get this at any home improvement store? and how do i know what psi to set it at?

- these chloramine filters from filterguys, they dont do anything to chlorine right? which filter would i need for chlorine?

thanks guys! :cheers:
