DIY 75 Gallon Tank Stand for Tall People

This may sound lame but I having trouble deciding how tall I want to build my 75 gallon tank stand. I am 6'9'' and want to make it a little taller then a typical tank stand for better viewing when I am sitting down.

I am thinking 32" tall. How tall would you say the average stand is?

All the stands I've built, about 500-600, are 30" tall.


So you can add a few inches to that. My 60 gallon tank which is 23" tall, the top edge of the trim is at about 53" off the floor. With no hood i can reach the bottom with out stretching too much. I'm 6'4" tall. With my wood canopy on it I have to tip toe just a bit to reach the bottom back.

Personally I don't like to look down into tanks. I prefer to look into the tank directly. So I made my stand 39 1/2 inches tall. And my tank is 32 inches tall. But I'm only 5'7". I'd say go for a tall stand. Just be sure that you fabricate the vertical supports so they wont bow!

Taller stands provide a better view for some but they do make things more difficult. Gotta find a median.

I'am 6'5 and my wife is 5' even. We have a difficult time agreeing on stand height. I want 32"ish she wants shorter so she can feed.

Long story short, Make it the height that you like. It is YOUR tank

I would go with somewhere int he neighborhood of 34-36". Standard stand heights are around 30-31"

I don't have 'stands" per-se, I went more of a 'workbench' route... Its 36.75" tall, and has a 55, a 29 long, and a new 10 gallon project on it. I'm 6', and its nice to not have to bend when planting, I extended the tube on my vacuum so I don't have to use a stool to get to the back of the tank.

The really nice part is that the middle of the tank is eye level when sitting in a regular chair. I can work without stooping too much and then I can sit and enjoy my work and fish at eye level.

My last tank was 48" of the ground aka stand height, was impossible to clean without a stool. To make matters easier, I just built a bench so I could stand on it walk back and forth.

This new tank is going to be 24" off the ground, to accomidate the room and my kids...
