DIY Algae scrubber

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Assuming that's the work of the nitrate filter and not the water change, you could probably get away with a %20 wc every two months.
This was around the time my filter needed a cleaning. All the numbers were fine and then there was a spike. So yea....if it holds....then that wc schedule is about right.

Gonna get started on the new filter as the leak seems to have gotten worse maybe 4ish gallons a day.

Whats the chance i kill all the anerobic bb when i tranfer everything over to the new filter ?

Gonna try and get 4 towers this time using the uniseals and unions between each tower

Some new toy, this is about 10 to 12 days after setting up.

didnt test my nitrate thou, API giving me issues and i refuse to buy a new set, while a few others gave me varying results

initially got a bio pellet reactor (red cap thingy on the left), which i wanted to feed into the algae scrubber (bought off the alibaba) which i didnt went ahead as i dont think i have anyways to prevent the waste built up or keep up the maintenance.

So i filled up the reactor, with deNitrate ended a valve to bring 900lph pump into the 200lph range into the scrubber. Also bought the 20w lamps supposedly for growing Cheato (china also) so far results are showing, algae is growing, photos giving me almost a new leave every other day

But may i ask if any of you guys have a answer for this? DeNitrate "works " best at below 50gph, so should it be the output out of the reactor around 50gph , or the flow entering it?

Flow entering should be about 50gph. There will be a drop of at the end. I haven't measured myself but I'm sure it not at 50. 30-50gph is the aim....so as long as it's around there it should be the goal.

Oh , thats my issue the original reactor comes with a pump that fits nicely , look around various brands and couldnt have one with a adapter that fits nicely.

the original pump output is 900lph (china rated so need discount abit) so i added valve and managed a output about 200 lph out of it in that case i probably will need to drop the flow further which not sure whether it will stress the pump or not.

IMG_0711.JPG 2 days after heavy feeding of tilapia and pellets couple days ago.

Looks at 10ppm of nitrates from tank and denitrator (right to left). Will check again tomorrow and see. Seems to be holding.

Awesome man ! Im still not seeing the reduction
