I am starting a new 75 gallon planted tank and wanted to be able to adjust the positioning of the lights in the canopy depending on how the tank is aqua-scaped. This is what i came up with. I still need to skin, trim, stain and install the lighting fixtures.

For lighting I am using two 55 watt kits from AH supply (for a total of 220 watts).

The front portion of the canopy (the part that is clamped) will be hinged so that I can open the front part of the glass top.

Without the front part that will be hinged:

The four boards in the back are going to be the "adjustable" parts the lights are mounted to. The can slide forwards and backwards on a rack.

very nice. Your woodworking skills are top notch judging both the canopy idea and that stand

Just a side note... you may want to consider HO T5 lighting as apposed to PC. Much more efficient and cost effective. (yes I have planted tanks)

Agree^^^^^^^^^^ Looks great looking forward to seeing how this turns out

Finally getting around to updating this thread. I finished the stand and canopy, filled the tank, planted it and started fishless cycling it:
