As some of you may know. I just got done with my 200 gallon. Pretty much built that thing from the ground up (minus the tank).

My next project was gonna be my 500 gallon, which is 2 months behind schedule. Just like in real life (outside of fish keeping), something unexpectly came up. I remembered a friend had 2 that was sitting in his garage, a while back. He offered them to me before but I didnt take them, thinking I would never need another tank. Well, needing a tank ASAP and it had to be a big one. I gave him a call and he let me buy one as he is gonna setup the other now. This morning I cleaned it out, prepping it for the plumbing (bulkheads, fittings, hoses, etc). My buddy also stopped by to take measurement of the tank. He's gonna build the stand out of angle iron and I will skin it with wood.

Im just happy it wasnt a pain in the a** to clean. The tank is about 6 months old and in perfect condition!:headbang2

Update: August 30, 2009

The bulkheads are in place with all the fittings needed for a Fluval FX5. The whole system will be on a "Closed Loop" system to prevent any flooding incase of a power outage. Since this 180 is a grow out tank, I will also be running 4 ATI Hydro Sponge Filter #5. To maintain a better water quality, due to the amount of feeding.

I was gonna paint the back of the tank, like the rest of my setups. I chose not to cause I will sell this tank in the future. I got Black Vinyl (the same stuff they wrap cars with) and applied it to the outside of the tank. Giving it the same affect as if it was painted.

Update: September 01, 2009

I stopped by my buddy's shop today to see the progress of the stand. Thinking they would be so busy that nothing was done at all (since its only been a day). I was in complete , when I saw the progress of it. There's only a couple of touch ups (grinding certain areas) and it should be powder coated today. There will be a piece of plywood 1/2" sitting in the recess part to protect the tank from the metal. I will than skin the outside like my pervious stand in my last project. Snapped a quick picture with my camera phone to share. Looks pretty good, doesnt it?

He has also informed me that the Stainless Steel Bio Tower, he is welding together for me is almost complete. The tower will be for my 500 gallon tank and boy is it gonna need a lot of bio balls. I incorporated the Bakki Shower system and a couple of W/D Dry ideas (drip tray and lid), to make my own massive trickling tower. The measurements for the Bio Tower (compartment holding the bio balls only) is 36"L x 20"W x 60"H. The system will sit inside a 135 gallon tank.

Here's what the Bakki Shower looks like:

nice is that a starfire tank? glass looks very clear.

Everything looks great, built a stand very similar not to long ago for a guy at work. Love the tower, bet it's loud, you gonna leave it open or box in the sides, and is that stand for the 500 gallon? if so, what size angle is that, looks like 2x2x3/16" but can't tell for sure.

The side is gonna be fully enclosed unlike the one in the picture above. That was it isnt as loud but its gonna be loud:nilly: The tank will be in the garage so it doesnt really matter.

No, this stand is going to be for the 180 gallon pictured above. I'm positive it is 2x2 angle iron, just dont know if its 3/16" though. The 500 gallon is gonna be made me the same material thicker. Im also thinking about making it out of 2x6s combined with 4x4s

AWSOME car bro.
LOL! This guy is a complete tool! This is a fish forum, and he just happens to take pics of a fish tank in front of a car, roflmao!! Wonder what he is trying to compensate for!!

no pics, i own a fab shop/machine shop so i do a lot of oddball jobs, need to start taking pics of everything though, once again it all looks great, one idea tho, if you make the stand out of angle for the 500gal, run a couple pieces diagonally in between the supporting legs from corner to corner, won't cost a lot more but it adds a lot to the structural integrity.

I'm a tool for taking a picture in front on the car......:screwy: Should I have taken it in front of a hot chick that is half naked? Would that be better, better yet how about in front of a dude half naked for ya?

Whats the big problem, I was cleaning the tank right there. If you were smart enough, you would see that my driveway towards the end slopes down. Better yet how about the stones that would prevent my furniture dolly to roll over them. Go take a long walk off a short pier man....
