i was wondering how i should build a couple buckets into filters...i want to use these bucket filters for my 8'x3'x3' amazon setup... that im going to build soon which is somewhere around 540 gallons...the indoor pond will have a plywood platform where the filters will be visible and with easy access.I was thinking of have a strong powerhead to uplift water up into a connected tube lining to the bottom side of the bucket where it will be siliconed from the outside to the inside and have many bioballs and a polyfiber coating will be somewhere around near the top of the bucket where their will be another but larger opening with a pvc pipe running above the pond with a wider attachment to the end of the pvc pipe to let the running water out to the pond again...but the buckets lid will be securely on with some very heavy materials to keep an overflowing waters to get out of bucket from the top but if it does it will allow a stronger but beneficial* water flow out of the filter into the pond......What do you guys think of that idea...do you guys think their is a flaw in my idea? if so please point it out and we could all discuss it together and figure out what will be needed to be fixed to make sure its perfectly safe and constructive to work accordingly.

It is easier to pump water to the top of the bucket and do your mechanical, chemical, and biological filtering as the water falls to the bottom. You need a super powerful pump to pump the water up the bucket, through the media, then out the top.

Just look through the site for bio towers and use buckets instead of whatever they used for the container.

oh ok so i should just do all this stuff but making the water come down from the top of the bucket...ok thats a good idea thanks =) but do you guys think 2 of these would be good enough to house monsters in with just 2 bucket filters?

what i mean is for all of those monster fishes that going in their their bioload is gunna get high and stuff....but is the 2 bio bucket filters going to be enough for that larger indoor pond?

Instead of pumping water to the bucket just pump water out of it and have an overflow that is plumbed to the top of the bucket.

With this setup you could even make it a wet/dry!!!! Not to mention not have to worry about having a tight lid...or any lid at all for that matter!

oh and i was also thinking of adding a heater inside of the bucket and not put it in the actual pond as my larger fishes may ram into making it break apart and do something i dont want it to do....is it possible though to have a heater in both bucket filters and heat the pond to the wanted temperature?
