DIY Reverse Flow Undergravel filter

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for the heads up. That would have given some bad results and I would have had no idea why. My sink wont be big enough but I have a clean 30 gallon rubber maid I can put on the counter. Looks like the test will have to be done in short bursts.

All my bio is going coming from a wet/dry and FBF. I'm looking for the mechnical aspect from the fx5, would you recommend the pillow batting for that?

I put this thing in last weekend and plumbed it up last night. I decided to use a 950gph pump instead of the FX5. With head pressure and T's and Elbows I figured it would drop down quite a bit (I know the 2400gph was cut in half running from the sump). It's cool to see the stuff not settling but I want a little more flow. I'm going to try to switch the 2400 and 950 and see how it does, The only thing I'm worried about is too much upwards current freaking the fish out. When I truned it on the first time they damn near jumped out of the tank. They didn't seem to mind it after a minute or two.

I didn't work out well. Partly because it was designed after the tank was setup. I needed up scraping it but don't remember exactly why. I hard plumbed my fx5 output to a spraybar about 6" over the sand and that blows eerything towards the the intake.
