DIY stand...2x4 or 4x4?

Doubled 2x4 will do the job (Rally's 300+ is made out of those and it holds, i think a tank half the size will be fine lol). If you still doubt, then pay extra for the 4x4. Otherwise you will doubt everytime you look at the tank and that is not a good feeling haha.

Like said, peace of mind is priceless...

Id do the 4x4 but I really overbuild everything.Just make sure the design has the wood supporting the weigt not the fasteners and youll be fine

Me and my dad are biulding one for my 240 aycrilic, were using 2x2,2x4, and 2x6.

got an idea already... i'll use 8pcs of 4x4 as support on the corners and middle. and use 2x4 on the top and bottom. i went to homedepot to estimate my cost. i have a question about woods... the green one is treated for termites, the red one is for outdoor, and the regular one is...(i don't know). what type of wood should i use? :screwy: with regards to wood glue... should i use it whenever i am joining any part? or only on finishings? :screwy: this would be my 1st project on carpentry. :)

I used 4x4s for the legs and 2x6s for the cross pieces and I can tell you a Tank could roll up on it. I used 2x4s in the past and I had to anchor it to the wall the other way it stands without any type of attachments.

Like I always say-- You can't overbuild peace of mind. Especially when you can cover it up.:)

When you spend $20 on a peace of mind that would only have cost you $2 for the same peace of mind then that's what we on mother earth call foolsgold.:grinno:

I went way overkill on my 500g stand, all 4x4 construction, my friend is in school for architectural engineering, and told me after doing the math if I built it correctly it could hold 108000lbs to crush the 4x4s I used. I sleep better though. especially when I'm underneath changing filter socks, knowing there's a couple tons above my head, I'm glad I over did it
