First off i'm not sure if this is true for all algae kill products but it is for the one i used(Tetra Algae Control).I had an algae outbreak last week in one of my tanks,I think it's the first one I ever had or at least remember having
.Went to store ,spent 1/2 hour choosing between 4 items, bought the Tetra brand because it's well known and it said "Will not harm fish" (not entirely true). It also said not to use with invertebrates or crustaceans, well I'd like to add Hybrids to the list.
I had two Flowerhorns in the tank, they were healthy and hardy fish.Came home from store and treated tank with Algae Control that night. The next morn low and behold they were both dead, floaters, pushing daisies, caput ,whatever
.Wierd hah,it didn't hurt any of the other cichlids or cat fish in the tank at all.So on the safe side if you have an algae outbreak and use an algae killer,Please remove your Flowerhorns or maybe even all Hybrids,I will from now on.
Thats all I have to say about that.
