I have seen rays with tubes over the stingers and some without. I really want a ray but can't afford for it to sting and kill one of my other fish. Does this ever happen. I saw someone on here who lost a large tigrinus and they think it was due to a ray sting. Does this happen? sorry if this is a repost

I have heard of a TSN that was stung by a ray and it suvived. I have also heard of a ray stinging it self. I guess it is all really a game of chance on whether a ray will sting another fish. I have muliple fish with my ray and the clown loaches are all over her all of the time and ride on her back and stuff and I have never seen her attempt to sting any of them. If anything my ray will bury itself in stead.

Stingray stingers evolved long before man came into the picture. I have ray fossils (with stingers) from 125 million year old fossil beds. The stinger is used to ward off being swallowed by a larger predator. Any clamping/squeezing pressure will bring on a tail whip response and probable sting.

Pics or vids please!

My spotted shovelnose was stung by one of my rays a few weeks ago & survived.
Its mouth swelled up pretty bad & it didn't feed for over a week or so but its back to normal now :)
I've attached a pic of the cat taken a few days after it was tagged. The swelling had gone down but the area where it was stung was all blood shot still.

If you keep rays with other fish there is always a chance that the fish will be stung, especially if they are bottom dwellers.

same here. but on my case, it's my RTG who is in danger. luckily, he does not stay too close with my stingray.
