I have an ornate that a friend gave to me. His tail and its fin were dangerously bit off from the turtle. My friend says its growing back, but i havent seen a difference since it moved to my tank. and i have my hopes too high?

Depending on how extensive the damage yes they most likely will grow back but over several weeks.
Observe the damaged areas for any signs of fungal or bacterial infections and keep the water as clean as possible-Anne

If it is to the body, the fins will not grow back...If there is any tail left, it will re gen.

it's been at least 12 weeks and i've seen little change. it's prolly not gonna grow back huh? i'm not sure its bitten to the tail or not, can check since its hiding =/

if its been 12 weeks+ and you haven't seen changes, then yeah chances are slim. but you never know...one day it may decide to regrow. just don't hold high expectation.

its hiding for 12 weeks now?i hope not because even though it can probably live that long without food it may die any day.as far as the tail goes,as mentioned above ,if its too close to the body it may not grow back but if theres part of the tail fins still there it should definitely grow back in time.have you treated the tank with anything to promote the fishes health?when fish get badly damaged you should buy something to help give it its strength/health back.

well, he's been eating. he comes out a lot more now than before. the bites are pretty close to the body, not just the tip of the fin or anything. I havent really treated the tank to promote fish health besides the stress coat that i add in for water changes. do you have any suggestions? i just thought that since the wound is not open anymore, theres no point. hope to hear from ya

i apologize for not getting back to you sooner.I am new to mfk and stilll trying to figure out how to navigate around the site.If you are using stress coat that is very good.I would continue that along with normal feedings and to be honest, just hope for the best.I do personally think it will grow back in time but no matter what may look a little deformed if it was bitten too close to the body.good luck man
