I have a female carpintis that got beat up. Her tail is almost all gone except w little stump. Will it grow back? I've already put her in a hospital tank with a little of salt.

Depends... Are the base of the rays removed? I think if the base of the fin rays are gone then no chance, but if the rays are just clipped short, then there is a chance. I have a Dovii that jumped a divider as a juvi and was almost eaten by my snook - in the process it lost the tail. The base of the tail was damaged and it never grew back. It looks like one of those heart shaped parrots where they intentionally clip the tails. Still mean as can be, but with no tail and is growing much slower than its siblings.

I had an A. nourisatti lose most of its caudal and pectoral fins (the fish was in very rough shape when I received it via mail order), and all grew back fully. Like auratum said above, if the rays are still present at the base of the tail, there is a (good) chance the fins will regrow. Best thing now is to provide clean water, warmth and salt to prevent fungus. Good luck.

It should, my pearl gourami and albino widow tetra both lost they tail, and after a few weeks it all started to grow back but slowly

Yes she still does have some of the rays in her tail. I was worried she was going to be a little handicapped the rest of her life.

Depending on the age of the fish, and whether just the soft fin or the hard rays are removed. The younger the fish. the greater the rejuventating power. Older fish can rejuvenate the soft fin, but has hard time juvenating once the hard rays are gone. I had some cichlid fry that had the entire tail bitten off, and rejuvenate completely. I had a young 4 inch Green Terror that had one-third of the tail bitten off twice, and twice he was able to rejuvenate completely. But my mature Green Terror with a split tail never grew back.

Wow that is a remarkable fish. Actually looks pretty neat without the tale.
