i am planing to set up a 4ft tetra community tank and i want to know do tetras eat other types of tetras

it depends, in general no, but there are some like exodons (a.k.a. bucktooth tetras) that certainly will

oh no, black skirt tetras eat neon tetras?? I was hoping to get some black skirts to add to my tank that already has neons. hopefully your experience was just a random chance happening...

Random or the neons were simply too small that the black skirts ate them or the black skirts harassed them to death enabling them to eat them to eat the neons.

why not spend the $2.00 and just find out?

Was a long time ago, and wasn't sure if it's random or not, but general rule of thumb is fish will get anything if it remotely fits into its' mouth.

Black skirt was a big female, about 3inches, and neons were new additions, and probably babies as they were only 1/2in.

Kind of funny to see part of the neon sticking out of the blackskirt's mouth though, and after a while, she managed to swallow it. Then all the other neons disappeared one by one until only two were left.

exodons will definetly eat the others. They are like small piranahs.

no not exactly there are preditory characins but as far as neons or lemon fins eating other tetras No black skirts can be a little aggressive and will eat fry but couldn't eat any adult tetras
