Do you have foam underneath acrylic or bare plywood?

thats another good reason to use the two types of foam. You want the stand to be smooth but if there is something small sticking up or small indention the soft foam will sink into the indention or allow the small object sticking up, to poke only into the soft foam, for example a screw head.

That pink insulation will not condense at all most, I have it under my 220 and the indention is unmeasurable.

Okay so are we saying use plywood on the stand and then use a type foam on top of the board and between the tank? I was told by a manufacture that using foam directly under an arcylic tank eats away at the material, any one heard ths before? Where do you get marine plywood from anyway? And idea for best foam for a 800gallon acrylic tank with steel stand.

I recommend that you do it, unless you know you have a perfectly flat and perfectly clean stand.

Still trying to get clarity on the situation, do you use foam or foam and plywood?

If you have a tubular steel stand and an acrylic tank, your tank has to be at least supported by plywood. Here's another thread with extensive discussion about using/not using foam under the tank. http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/f...-New-tank-84x36x24-...-Time-for-a-Stand-build!

In post #53: "Well thanks for the advice guys. Good news is I heard back directly from tenecor and was told foam is ok but unneeded, though it won't eat away at the tank.... "

When we bought our 300 gallon tank from Midwest Custom Aquariums, we were told to use foam under the tank. It seems that it's the salesman at Fishtanksdirect.com who is saying absolutely no foam. He also told me the same thing.

It is a manufacturer preference and/or a peace of mind thing. My 300 does not have foam underneath it. *knocks on wood*

I have a 160 gallon pentagon I made from acrylic directly on the base I made. I am building this octagon as we speak. I can get a .008” feeler gauge in a couple spots around the perimeter of the stand I built. I was wondering about using foam. What thickness?
