When I do quarantine tanks, I put some seasoned bio-media in, and maybe some seasoned decor from an establishment.ished tank, and QT for at least 2 months.
I never ad meds unless its obviously called for.
And part of the QT process is getting new fish accustomed to the conditions they will be living in.
The media and decor help as a first step (beyond just providing the Beneficial Bacteria.
Then ...throughout each week I add water from their intended tank. This gets them acclimated to the bacterial lode, bacterial species, and water parameters they will face after QT.
QT is not just about keeping the main tank safe, but....there may be bacteria your established fish have immunity to, that the new fish don't.
An extended QT , with water addition from the main tank helps bridge that gap.
