Dont feed spiders!

oh shucks, ut i feed my aro some spiders from time to time. what you fed must be really poisonous. though all spideys are, that one might have been a real killer. i feed my aro the lanky, orb-weaving garden types
 
I'll definitely hold this experience in the back of my mind. I normally leave spiders alone and put them outside when I find them, but sometimes I do feed whatever bugs and stuff to the fish as treats. Sorry to hear of your loss.
 
Ive also feed my fishes spiders and crickets several times before with no ill effect. But now, I wont do it anymore, just in case.
 
I would not feed any bug or otherwise that was just crawling around to any of the fish in my tank. You don't know where they've been, nor what they've been exposed to (poisons, etc...).
 
I found one spider once...a fisher spider (at the time I didnt know what it was and thought it just consumed bugs..)...It was large, living by the water, (with a web constructed underwater) so I bought it home...I happily released it into my tank for my fish to cohabitate with it lol...( guppies, angels, and some asst other small fish)....I forgot about it and the next day I got up and found it had made a web above the water and below...and all my guppies had just about dissappeared....I was like wtf...and I looked and he had them all spun in a web..dead...he had to go..so I released him to the stream I got him from..but no doubt..he was cool as hell......mother nature is da bomb...
 
I believe this was proven a myth on Mythbusters lol seriously I could be wrong but I am sure this is not true at all...

the most venomus spider is the dady long leg , it teeth just aint long nuff to infect and to small amount of venom

I think we've established the fact about the Daddy longlegs, it's about time to drop it. People come here to get help, not to get attacked by other people about their mistakes. It's a trial and error thing taking care of fish, and we need to count on others to help eachother through whatever happens, especially on a site like this.

Leave the myth to rest for now, we've established all we need to know.

And sorry TexasMomma about your loss, I hope things are okay.

One of my ex mother in laws got bite on her buttock while in the out house when she was younger. they swear she has a scar, but well I didn't want to look. Then again she lives in the sticks and still don't have indoor plumbing. They ain't much of anything more colder than an outhouse on Christmas morning. You have to watch for rattle snakes on the way in the summer.
