Driftwood fuzzy won’t go away

I've always gotten this fungus on "new wood" that I water-log to use in aquariums, as opposed to the malaysian driftwood etc that you buy in an LFS. There are plenty of fish that will eat it like plecos or livebearers, though they may not be good with your current stock. I bet a flagtail would eat the stuff and be large enough to avoid problems with your bichirs.

I have this grow on all the driftwood that I have added to my aquariums. I have used snails and plecos to keep it down. It is harmless and will go away after awhile.

I don't think that is a fungus. It looks more like some sort of algae.
