I am working on setting up a new system. It will be around 1200g of water total and I am wanting to use a drip system to reduce water changes. How are people with these systems removing chlorine? I plan to drip around 40g per day so the filters marketed for aquariums are not practical at all for chlorine removal.

At 40 gallons a day, it really shouldn't be an issue imo. It's a small amount of water on such a large volume of water. Interested to see what others say as well

For chlorine only you can use a carbon block filter. Chloramines are a little tougher but the Filterguys have filters for just about every application.

Well one thing you could do is have a preset amount of chlorine or chloramine conditioner (I.E. Seachem Prime) released into the tank at regular intervals or directly added to the drip line to immediately remove them.

You could make it complicated or simple... I would second John above for the filter guys and keep it simple. I use their chlorine filter plumbed into the incoming water line.

Yeah, you're probably right. I didn't read the amount. Most of it would off gas with light an aeration. The only thing that might be of concern is some municipal systems periodically up the dose. Not often, but I've heard it causing some trouble for some hobbyists. Like twice a year or so.
I bet if you have a large stock you will end up dripping more then that fast.

I am dripping 300+ gallons a day using the filter guys chlorine filters. Just make sure you add a sediment filter or you are playing with fire.
How long do they last using that much water?
Thanks for the advice everyone. Does any place sell chlorine remover dosing units? I may just set up a gallon drip of chlorine remover so i do not have to buy filters. I'll only need to add about 6 drops a day.
I do realize that 40g a day is pretty light. But that still will result in about 15% water changes each week and I'll do manual 50% changes on everything monthly. Tanks will be lightly stocked with just breeding pairs so the only real concerns are the fry grow out tanks which I can adjust if needed. I think people tend to get quickly obsessed with water changes and how often they are needed. I know people that do 3 80% changes a week and people that do 25% a month. Both can work depending on the filtration and stocking. Nitrates are what dictate water changes.
My nitrates would get high so I need the water changes in my system, your exactly correct on your idea with watch changes. My drip is my love in the hobby.

I had a friend ask one day what is prime and I told him. He said what is the point of that. After that I stopped using it and then I setup a drip later with no filters or anything. My water is fairly good. I would see if you are as luck as a few are and can do strait water from the tap without filters.
