I bought 4 dwarf chanchitos today at my local pet store. he also gave me there real name australoheros oblonga. he told me that these fish are very rare. i just want to learn more about them. if anybody can help me out please do. pictures of the fish wont help because they are still babys. i also found another name for them call cichlasoma oblonga

They should be called Australoheros sp. 'oblongum' ... mostly becuase they haven't been scientifically described yet. They might be just a color form of the common chanchito or might be a new species. I don't think they've been found in the wild recently, which complicates things.

Beautiful fish in breeding dress, they stay small .. in the 4"-5" range for males, females smaller. Do well with a cool down period like all Australoheros species. There isn't much info out there on them becuase they are deffinately uncommon.

well the guy i got them from has sold out of them. i got 4 from him and i think i got 2 males and 2 females. from what i found out it that these are very rare fish i think i got a good price for them 4 for 28 bucks
