Eheim 2026 or Rena Xp3

The 2026 are junk. If you buy it used you better plan on buying a new o ring. These filters are strange, that o ring gets old, but the filter wont leak until power is off. Had two of this model do this(both used), sold them and went with XP3s.
Neither of the two canisters are going to do a very good job filtering mechanically, but biologically either will be effective. An AC110 would be fine for a conventional 55g tank but not this one you've shown. You would either need to go with two HOB or a canister to effectively circulate the water in the tank. Tank is kind of a filtration nightmare.

I run 3 on one tank and I have to put my head in the cabinet to hear if they are actually on. I find them to be very quiet filters.

if they are noisey, somethings wrong. perhaps an air leak, or gravel/sand in impeller chamber etc. etc.

I should have clarified. I don't hear it unless stick my head inside the cabinet, same as you guys. But when I do, the xp3 is a lot noisier than 2 FX5's combined. Or maybe it's just me!
Hilarious, I remember reading this, and wondering to myself if I had chosen the wrong canister filter back in 2006 or 2007. Today, I replaced the impeller and a gasket for the second time, but otherwise, my Eheim 2026 has been running flawlessly 24/7 since I bought it. Do you still think they're junk?
