Apart from the nutritional value and that the fry go for the movement, feeding brine shrimps also allows you to check that the fry are eating well, as they get full reddish bellies- I couldn't get a very clear shot of the ones I have just now but anyway its possible to see what I mean:
I have success in feeding small fry with crushed flake and pellet food. Use a roller to grind food into fine powder. The fine food will not only feed the fry directly, but will also trigger growth of microorganism food for the fry.

I have leaf litter on the bare bottom of the breeding tank that I leave there to grow food.
Moss also harbors snacks for the fry.
I throw in a small amount infusoria a few days before starting the breeding schedule. I tend to include a little piece of mushy veg to give the culture a solid amount of bacteria to feed on and multiply quickly for the fry.
For dry foods, I collect the fish feed dust out of each container as I finish it. The dust from all the different brands and types go into a mixed container. I sprinkle this dust in fry tanks. Has worked well for me with guppies, danios, tetras and hillstream loaches.

Yes leaf litter is good, I always move some well established leaf litter and moss from the main tank to the fry tank. And collecting all that fine dust from empty fish food is a good idea - I always start them with brine shrimps but then gradually add some finely powdered dry food after a week to two.
I have been suspending powdered fry food and squirting it into the school of baby fish. It has been working quite well so far, today is the first day they came out when I fed the adults.

the fry have been swimming around, following their parents when I feed the adults. They've been willingly accepting powdered food. You can now tell a difference in size distribution with a few being bigger and a few being much smaller than the main group. I am at the two week time point, when do you guys generally remove the parents?

I personally would wait another week or two. It's up to you the fry are eating and growing.
