i was thinking about getting and electric blue crayfish(procambarus alleni) and was wondering if they would be okay with other bottom dwellers i had in mind? i was planning to get 3 pictus catfish and a peacock eel. i would be okay not getting the pictus catfish but i still really want to get the peacock eel. thanks in advance

It depends on the crayfish - but at best, it's a risk. Don't get it, if you don't want to lose sleep worrying about finding a half-eaten fish (of any kind) the next morning.

i think i might go with the crayfish and pictus cats then. i think some 3 inchers will be able to get away from a two in crayfish. imo they are horrible at catching anyfish that isnt sick. the eel is cool but id rather have somethin with more color in it. yeah definitely depends on the crays personality. ive had super aggressive and extremely peaceful.

Crayfish certainly are not horrible at catching anything. But at the very least, you can expect the catfish to get injured. Especially at night. If you are okay with hurting your other fish, go ahead.
If you want color, why do you want pictus cats ?

im saying id rather have the crayfish over an eel in terms of color. from my experience with crayfish they were never able to catch any of my other fish that were not dead or about to die including my bichir who i thought was a slow swimmer. i am going to try it and if the cray is too aggressive ill just trade him in and try to find a peacock eel.

So there was no need to ask the question as you already had your mind made up. You have been told its a bad idea and the crayfish will hurt the fish but away you go. Well done.

never had my mind made up. my stocking ideas have changed just about everyday trying to choose what to get and what will work. yeah its trial and error. its not like i am the first one experimenting with what will work. but i do agree that it depends on the crayfish even if the cray caught the cat it would most likely get away, a guppy not so much. i agree it is a risk but if i notice the catfishes fins torn up then i am going to do something about. people have mixed things far worse than what i am trying and succeeded. i think itll work but i will be keeping a close eye on them

my filters are kind of overkill on my tank and i think depending on the size of the fish they could handle it. that and water changes just in case

Also keep in mind that crayfish will dig, hide and are skilled at climbing up ANYTHING and escaping from the tank.

the one i had before always moved around my gravel and to me it was cool seeing how much it could do in one day. i also have lids on my tank so i should be good. thanks for your input
