I'm leaning more toward environmental, diet and water. If they were born with deformities I would think it would be noticeable when purchased. The photos I've studied over the years show no sign of that. I've seen a lot of glass surfing which to me is not healthy physically and mentally for the fish. Bambusa like koi do better being fed less but often throughout the day. The sunlight balances everything out with algae and UV rays for the fish.Do you mean do I know why they often have deformities?
