Emperor cichlid

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I kept mine in a 750g and they were still a problem. Just be careful with your tankmates.

I think you are way over your self and should strat with smaller more controlable cichlid. Understand that the bigger the fish the bigger the problem. It will be less forgiven for mistake you incounter if you choose that type of cichlid and get familliar with the fish you want.

Thank you for your consern but as I stated i dont really like any other chiclids. and for $20 its not that big of a loss if i have to give it away. Hopefully it wont come to that. But if it does thats not a problem.

and as for the biggger the fish the bigger the problem that is not nessaraly true. I have had a few large fish that were wimps. But most of the time you are right.

And as for getting familiar with the fish. What do you think this thread is?

It's worth mentioning that while mine was a juvenile it was in with a Tanganyican Tilapia which was much bigger. The emp seemed not to grow much while the tilapia was there as it was the boss of the tank but after a few years when the tilapia died, the emperor started to grow and step up as the new boss of the tank.Dom if you do get one I suggest that you get it off of feders as soon as you can,I think that contributes to slower growth....I really miss mine, guests would come over and be amazed at the size that it had grown to.I have another picture of it it my profile, you'll get more of a sense of it's size.

From reading that I think that it might be best to wait till my fish are a bit bigger at least big enbough so that the EC wont be the boss. I think im going to hold off a bit..

Haha I was planing on takeing some shots tonight. ill post some full tank shot's later. I just did a Dorado update in the photo lounge ill post the full tank shots in there.

I have an emperor now, have had it for about 8 months. It was about 4-5 inches when I got it, now about 9-10.

It is not the most agressive fish but it certainly holds its own. Of course the fish in with it can be a bit agressive at times: Frontosa 8", Buccochromis nototaenia 7", Nimbochromis venustus 7", Fossochromis rostratus 8" (was a wimp until female became gravid).

When about 6"

Now at around 9"
