does anyone here have experiences with keeping these gudgeons?

What do they look like when they aren’t colored up?

I did a search and only found a few photos.

I have a chance to get some of these at a good price for a community tank.

I saw Dans fish has some wild caught fish and here is a picture of an adult and he’s absolutely stunning.

I was reading that they don't look like this most of the time. My LFS has 2"s for $8 each, i was thinking throwing 6-10 into my peaceful community

He showed off these new gudgeons last night on his live stream and I was in love until I saw the prices so I started looking at other species and saw the empires. I’ve never dug very deep into gudgeons…yet.

Those look like a fish that Wes Wong would bring in. Maybe pricing is better direct?

An LFS I worked at kept empire gudgeons in the 150 gallon display. The males were almost always colored up, But in the mornings right as the lights came on and in the evenings was when they had the most color. It is very easy to differentiate the males and females once they mature. and the big male we had was about 4". Highly recommend for a large community tank. They take a while to mature but they were one of our most popular selling fish due to the display.

I love my Empire gudgeons. Very peaceful, keep to themselves and the males are absolutely stunning! I have 3 in a 150 gallon with Clouded archers, Odessa barbs, cherry barbs, a flag tail and a few other misc fish. They like to stay in the lower half of the aquarium. I have 3 males and they color up most every day. Highly recommend!20210206_142741.jpgIMG20240114171844.jpgIMG20250203185037.jpg
